I just wanted to share The View from Room 205 which is a radio documentary I stumbled across while travelling last weekend.
It details life in a fourth grade classroom in Chicago Public Schools and shines a light on a lot of the problems in education (and society) in the world today. The main thesis of the piece challenges this idea:
“No Excuses” basically says that if schools are good enough, they should be able to overcome kids’ economic backgrounds, the poverty of their neighborhoods, and get those kids to achieve at the highest levels.
I figured there may be some people may be interested as a lot of the stories detailed here are reflected in our settings as well.
